Meeting Minutes for 09/12/05

20 Members and 5 Guests present. Sybil Marlowe spoke about the Oct. 31st bike ride for Down syndrome & other challenged youth. Kevin Dunn spoke about the September 24th Peloton Project Livestrong Fundraising Ride in Greenville.

Item One: Minutes from August meeting were approved.

Item Two: Jim Brown read the Treasurer’s report. Jim presented a draft of the 2005 Fiscal Year Budget Projections which we will discuss more at our next meeting.

Item Three: Andrew Danfy - Racing Report
Andrew gave us a sneak preview of our new uniform jersey and shirt.

Item Four: Richard Dillard - George Hincappie Parade Report
On September 9th in Greenville George Hincappie was honored by thousands of fans and city dignitaries. The Freewheelers were represented in the parade. Richard shared pictures of the inspirational gathering. Lance Armstrong was a surprise guest on the stage for the awards presentation and comments.

Item Five: Ricky Darwin - Newsletter Information
Ricky thanked all who have contributed articles, pictures and ride information to The Seat Post. The cutoff for the next newsletter is September 18th.

Item Six: Paul LeFrancois - PCC Report
Paul urged all PCC members to cast a ballot to elect new board members. Current PCC membership is 606. The deadline for ordering new jerseys and shorts is September 23rd. They will be ready in time for the SCDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Conference in Hilton Head December 7-9. Paul stressed the importance that fellow bicyclers follow the rules of the road. Several bicyclists have been killed this month. The Freewheelers bought bike racks for the new Mt. Victory Trail that will hold 12 bikes. The dedication of the Cowpens trailhead will be held October 6 at 4 PM.

Item Seven: Jeff Cook - Tour de Paws Report
Close to 300 cyclists participated with approximately $7,000 raised for the Spartanburg Humane Society. Only 1 small crash was reported. Dave Procter informed us that a bike was stolen off a vehicle at the Great Escape parking lot Saturday after the ride. This is a heads up to all of us to lock our bikes at all times.

Marly announced the resignation of Vince Barnhill, Webmaster. Please let her know if you know of any qualified applicants. She also read an email from Howard Johnson, which underlined the importance of following the rules of the road, especially club members. What can we do to enforce safe riding?

Jean Crow introduced Sybille Marlowe who is putting together a fun ride for Down syndrome and physically and mentally challenged youth Friday, October 21st at 4:30 PM. This will be held at Cowpens Battlefield. Handicapped riders will go one lap and then all who want may join in on a second lap. Please volunteer by calling Sybil at 579-2853.

George and Anna Blestel presented a wonderful slide show highlighting their ride on the Tour (de France) with Steve Bauer Bike Tours.

Our next meeting will be held October 3rd at the Westside Library at 7 PM.
