Ricky: Cut back on copies sent to bike shops
Parks & Recreation copies cut.
May save 33% on cost of copies
Races Foothills Bike Club Applications were in packages. Why not
Freewheelers Applications in packages at races?
Newsletter = Cost $0.50 plus mailing fee.
3rd Rate (Bulk) is less expensive
We mail 300 month
Why not just send headlines and applications to Bike Shops?
Expenses are running about the same as 2005. We have about the
same amount of money as last year
We have one unpaid Mt. Mitchell bill
Some checks were issued but have not cleared for Mt. Mitchell
Next Main Expense is our Christmas Party
Party will be less expensive for 2006
First or second Tuesday in December
Donations for Beer & Wine requested.
Entertainment: aim for 1/3 cost of December 2005.
We want to have it at the Hub-Hub on Daniel Morgan Ave.
Proposed Membership: Raise $5.00 to $20.00 for singles and $30.00
for families
Motion to vote at next meeting and publish this in the newsletter.

Build cycling at low level, then build to member level, etc.

Bench Ads, etc. should be sponsored by Freewheelers
We had a motion to vote in the next meeting and to publish in
the minutes that the $5.00 raise in membership fee will fund special
projects like Partners for Active Living
Still have 1 year toward Bike Town yet to be completed.
We need to give into the community for future health of community
members and to encourage folks to become a part of the Freewheelers
Biking Community.
We will vote on memberships fee in Oct. 2006
Bike Shop News: None as of this meeting
We discussed Bike Shop Membership of $200 per year to receive
¼ page Ad on Bike Shop Flyers
Mary Black Rail Trail had 25 cars parked 40 people were walking
and riding.
City of Spartanburg applied for Bicycle/Pedestrian Commission
with the League of American Bicyclists
Will hear soon regarding application
May get an honorable mention or bronze award as a Bike Friendly
community on the city channels (Channels 14 or 15 on TV)
September 21, 2006: PCC hosts Education for Law Enforcement for
Greenville, Spartanburg, Oconee, Pickens, and Laurens to
train Law Enforcement about bike safety
We need to contact officers of small communities concerning
attendance at the event.
On the evening of evening of Thursday, September 21, 2006. Jean
Crowe and others go to planning commission with a bicycle
accommodation plan for the city of Spartanburg
Yamasee Time Trial They have an old rail line that they seek to
transfer to rail trail near Beaufort, SC
25 mile rail trail to coast of SC
Big Investors are competing to make it a dinner train line
If Spartanburg becomes a Bike Friendly, a community conference
will be held in Spartanburg
The SC DOT Bicycle Pedestrian Conference should be in Oct 2007
Spartanburg will be the 1st Bicycle Friendly Community if we are
designated.
Proposed Bike lanes for Country Club Road to the Rail Trail will
be done in phases. They will be 4 foot wide bike lanes.
The right of way is very expensive
Construction costs are less than the right of way costs.
Redesign Clifton-Glendale Area near old church ground.
Some bike lanes under construction on Hwy 221
We seek a connection from East Side of Spartanburg to West Side
for bike lanes and well as North-South connections.
