Item One: Minutes from July meeting were approved. It was decided that the Freewheelers not include the actual amount of money in our checking and savings account on our website under "VIEW MEETING MINUTES".
Item Two: Jim Brown read the Treasurer's report. Jim will have a proposed budget which we will discuss at our next meeting
Item Three: Andrew Danfy Racing Report
Several bike criteriums will be held this weekend in North Carolina: Thursday in Salisbury, Friday in Statesville, a very large one in downtown Charlotte Saturday, and Sunday in Concord. NC-SC Time Trial Championships will be held August 27th in York, SC. Andrew is working on the new jersey design and they should be ready in the Fall. Let him know if you know of any sponsors as there is still a little bit of room left for advertisement.
Item Five: Ricky Darwin Newsletter Information
The Seat Post is looking for articles, pictures and ride information. Please email these to him as well as any other suggestions you might have.
Item Six: Paul LeFrancois - PCC Report
Paul is getting ready to order new bike racks for the new Mt. Victory Trail that will hold 12 bikes. SCDOT will be partnering with the PCC to implement a Police Officer Training Program. This will give law enforcement officers the tools they need to properly enforce the laws that affect bicyclists. The PCC raised $32,640 for the American Diabetes Association. This ranked them 8th in the country among all single-site Tour de Cure teams nationwide. They will also be a safety sponsor for the MS 150 ride and will be hosting a team. SDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Conference is scheduled for December 7-9 in Hilton Head. Paul urged us to attend to give the bicyclist perspective. After some discussion it was noted that the Freewheelers were not that interested in promoting the Bicycle Commuter Act that was introduced by Representative Doug Smith. It was the general consensus that more emphasis should be placed on the safety of commuting to work and bike lanes. October 6th will be the date for the dedication of the trail head for the Mt. Victory Trail. Paul also asked us to please turn in your vote for the PCC Board of Directors Ballot, which will be in the PCC newsletter.
Item Seven: Ken Sanders Tigerville Bike Trek & BBQ
320 cyclists participated with more than half signing up the day of the ride. Other than 2 accidents, the event went very well with much positive feedback. Ken did request more volunteers next year.
Item Eight: Handbook
No one has volunteered to help put together a handbook for new/old members.
Item Nine: A motion was made and passed for us to pay $75 for a picture to help in the presentation by the PCC for the proposed bike lane in Boiling Springs.
Upcoming event: Tour De Paws Saturday, September 10th
Our next meeting will be held September 12th at the Spartanburg Headquarters Library at 7 PM.
The meeting adjourned at 7:50.
Respectfully submitted,
