Subject: Personal Vehicles at the Top of Mt Mitchell
For years we have patiently asked people not to take personal cars to the top. This is the prime reason the limits are imposed on the ride. Large numbers of vehicles would adversely effect the removal of the riders in an emergency. We have been warned that if this practice of taking personal cars to the top does not stop, The Ride Will Stop!
We will continue the practice of not awarding Patches and removing the names of those offenders from the mailing list in 2008 as we did in 2007. The Park Service will assist us in identifying these people. One of the riders, in 2002, actually physically assaulted one of our volunteers concerning the patch issue. Volunteers were subjected to verbal abuse. These volunteers work all day in the bad weather to help you! We will make every effort to preserve this event and not let it be destroyed by this small group of inconsiderate people.
