Why: Because it's there!

Below is a listing of those that have taken the challenge.

A new recurring ride is starting this Sunday. It's called the Paris Mtn Sunday Ride. It is for cyclists of all abilities and is not a race. We want both casual and seasoned cyclists to enjoy the challenge of Paris Mtn located in Greenville, SC. It is the best 19 mile local ride with a climbing challenge thrown in for fun. Don't be scared, you can do it! Helmets required and we follow all the rules of the road.

If you live near Greenville you know we have a great little mountain in our backyard. Fact #1: George Hincapie has lived in close proximity of Paris Mtn. for many years so he can leave his driveway and be training on it in a moments notice. Fact #2 The U.S Championships included Paris Mtn Labor Day weekend 2006. Our Paris Mtn Ride will start in the Bi Lo parking lot at Vaughn's at E. North. This is at the intersection of E. North St and Haywood Rd. A map is below. We plan to hold the ride each Sunday afternoon starting at 2:00 PM, weather permitting.

The ride is approx 19 miles round trip and takes a little over two hours for most cyclists. The route is specifically designed to avoid traffic. We go through neighborhoods to reach the base of Paris Mtn. We then begin a 4 mile climb up Altamont Rd. to the summit. One challenge is a short stretch local cyclists call "THE WALL". It's short but very steep. We will pause at the radio towers on the summit of the mountain to take in a great view of downtown Greenville, Furman University and Table Rock Mtn. before the exhilarating ride back down the mountain.

Note: This event is open to all cyclists. Freewheelers of Spartanburg club members are covered by supplemental insurance. Other riders ride at your own risk. All riders will need to sign a waiver to participate in this event.
