Minutes from the 5/30/06 Board Meeting were approved.
Steve Yetman reported on the June 9th Post Assault Ride Meeting with John Bryan, the Mt. Mitchell Supervisor, the Western NC State Parks Director, the Chief Ranger over the Blue Ridge Parkway (Jackson), the Ranger in charge of the Parkway section we ride on and the staff person that issues permits. They have decreed that no more permits would be issued for the Assault on Mt. Mitchell on any weekend day due to safety concerns. It was decided that the 2007 Assault will be held Monday, June11th. This is the day of the week that has the lowest traffic. It will be easier for the both groups (park rangers and Blue Ridge Park Service) to get additional personal that our tour requires. Other events will be evaluated on a case by case basis. The City of Spartanburg is thrilled that we have changed the date to a weekday after school is out. The permit has been issued. We discussed the possibility of an earlier start maybe as early as 6 AM. There will be a parking problem at the start. We also discussed raising rates next year for Mitchell ($65 to $75 but Marion would remain $40). We also will investigate collecting money from vendors, with some exceptions. Could we get sponsorship for next year?
Marly requested a volunteer to head up the August Ride for Governance.
Jeff Cook has received a letter from the insurance company stating that we have not paid for Marion. Jim Brown will check to see if the check he wrote has cleared. **NOTE: Since that meeting Jeff found that the letter had been sent out in error and that the check had been received both rides were paid in full.
Colin Izzard from Carmichael
Training Systems will speak at our July 10th
Freewheeler's meeting on zone heart rate training.
The Upstate Cycling Clubs will have a picnic on August 5th at the small shelter at Lake Robinson. The MS Society will pay for the food.
Respectfully submitted,
