The Assaults® are organized and run by the Freewheelers of Spartanburg. 

Posted January 22, 2012 - Passcodes for the Assault on Mount Mitchell will be sent out this week via email to all members of the Freewheelers. If you haven't received your code you will soon! Reminder, this is only for Freewheeler's members that joined before midnight December 31, 2011!

The Assault on Mt. Mitchell began in 1975, when a group of friends led by John Bryan decided to ride from Spartanburg, SC to the top of Mt. Mitchell - the highest point east of the Mississippi River. From that casual beginning, the annual event has become one of the best known centuries in the country.

Part of the ride is along the Blue Ridge Parkway and ends at the top of Mt. Mitchell State Park where the number of riders is limited by both the National Park Service and the Mt. Mitchell State Park rules. So, the Assault on Mt. Mitchell have been limited to 750 finishers for a number of years.

Registration for Mount Mitchell is now open for current members of the Freewheelers. To be considered a club member in good standing and receive a pass code for Mitchell registration club membership for 2012 must have been renewed no later than December 31, 2011 at midnight through Active.com. All club members will have the right to register for the event before the event is opened to the general public. On February 15 at 7:00 a.m. a general entry will open. This means that if there are 100 spots open for the event that they will most likely sell out quickly and registration will then be closed for the event.
