The following is a summary of the discussions and decisions from the
Freewheelers Board meeting held on 8/23/04, 7:00PM - 9:00PM.

Item 1
It was brought to the attention of the board that Paul Campbell was not on the freewheelers board Yahoo email list, but should be since the Past President is considered a board member. We agreed to ask Steve Y. to take care of this.

Item 2
Biketown Proposal
Paul L. explained the issues in detail again, following a written summary he had prepared. After discussion, the board was asked to consider
committing $5,000 for each of the next 3 years for this project. This money will be used to assist in funding a full time person to manage the project. Richard D. presented a motion to accept, it was seconded and all in attendance approved. Paul L. will now prepare to ask the Mary Black
Foundation? for a grant. One footnote to the whole meeting...Paul L. was going to review the by-laws to confirm that a 50% board attendance (5 of 10 members present) is sufficient to move forward on our decisions.

Item 3
Reward fund
Discussion on whether Freewheelers should commit funds to add to the SC Reward fund for anyone who provides info leading to arrest and conviction of anyone who hits a cyclist with their vehicle. (or pedestrian?) The board members agreed in principle, but asked Paul L. to try and structure it so all clubs in the state would share in the financial commitment for any incident in the state. The original idea was to separate the funding into upstate, downstate, etc...

Item 4
MS 150 rider support
Marly would like to ride the MS 150, and asked the board if the Freewheelers would contribute funds to help her reach the minimum of $200. After discussion, the Board agreed to contribute $200 as a General Fund available to all current Freewheeler members who ride the MS150. In other words, the $200 will be split by all the Freewheelers who sign up for the MS 150 this year. Checks will have to be written for their registration by 9/8? We know of 4 who are currently planning on this ride.

Item 5
Officer elections
Per John's suggestions, we all agreed to wait until October to elect new officers for the 4 open positions. We discussed posting the positions on the web page, forming a nominating committee, and in general doing everything possible to get the positions filled.

Item 6
Membership & Mail
With Dennis out, there is a concern about where the membership mail is going, who is checking it, where bills and checks are being mailed, and who is checking on that. This is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed via the board email ASAP.
