Item 1 Future meeting place
- The Freewheelers will continue meeting at Fuddruckers.
Item 2 Christmas party
- The Christmas party will be held on Monday, December 6th.
Dave Proctor will contact Stan Staggs about meeting at the Walnut
Grove Stillhouse again this year. The menu will be similar to
last years. The price of admission will be a gift for a child
at the children's shelter.
Item 3 Newsletter
- Michelle Gunning from Greenville will be our new Seat
Post editor. She needs all articles submitted by the 15th
of each month.
- The newsletter will be published monthly before our meeting.
The first newsletter will be out in late November. Michelle will
use her discretion to content and length of each article. Steve
Yetman volunteered to help her.
Item 4 Insurance
- The club needs to stipulate what rides we are going to
insure each year.
- Marly suggested that we have one person in charge of insurance
for the club.
- John Bryan recommended Jeff Cook because of his expertise
in that area.
- John then made a motion to have Jeff Cook oversee the
Freewheelers insurance and Mike Bonner 2nd it.
- Anyone planning a ride for 2005 that requires an entry
fee needs to submit a description of the ride to Greg Kyzer.
- The board will meet in January to review any submissions
and compile a list for Jeff.
- Dave Proctor announced that he has insurance of his own
and will no longer need the Club's insurance.
- Dave Proctor requested that the Club help sponsor Mark
Kayser with an upcoming Mitchell training ride. No vote was taken.
Item 5 Food
- The Club gave Gloria Anderson permission to be reimbursed
for her upcoming night rides after a discussion about the number
of people involved and the approximate cost.
Item 6
Christmas parade
- Richard Dillard sent an e-mail to Marly suggesting that
the Freewheelers participate in the Christmas parade the day
after Thanksgiving. The board decided that we could reconsider
this again next year when we have more time to plan.
Item 7 Identification cards for club members
- Jeff Howland offered to make identification cards for
club members. He will have samples of these cards at the next
meeting.
Item 8 Mt. Mitchell
- John Bryan announced that he does not think it is necessary
at this time to plan another route for Mitchell until he has
the final word from the rangers. He would appreciate continued
help for packing the packets and helping at the auditorium on
Friday.
- John also mentioned that he has been approached to have
chips for Marion as well as Mitchell.
City Involvement
- Paul LeFrancois reported that his and John Bryan's conference
with Spartanburg's mayor was encouraging.
- The Freewheelers would like to celebrate Mitchell's 30th
anniversary by making the week of Mitchell a
week-long celebration.
- Discussion followed about the possibility of having USCF
races. Andrew will contact Rich Hincapie for
more information.
Item 9 High mileage plaques
- Dave Proctor requested that the Freewheelers purchase
the plaques for the high mileage group this year.
- The cost will be approximately $10 each for 30-32 people.
- Paul LeFrancois moved to accept Dave's request; Andrew
Danfy 2nd it.
Item 10 Award Fund
- Paul LeFrancois reminded us of a Greenville cyclist recently
killed by a hit and run driver. The Reward Fund is to help lead
to the arrest and conviction of any motorist who hits a cyclist
in a hit and run situation where there is no immediate arrest.
The reward fund would be used when an individual provides information
to the state police that leads to the arrest and conviction of
a driver who hits a cyclist.
The following amounts have been approved by the PCC and other
clubs.
PCC - $500
Greenville Spinners - $200
Coastal Cyclists - $200
AIken Bicycle Club $200
Greenwood Cycling Club - $200
Rock Hill - $200
The board Monday night approved the Freewheelers to offer $200
for the
reward fund as well.
Item 11 Sponsoring Rides
- Several options about the Club sponsoring rides from bike
shops were discussed.
- One issue is if food would only be provided at rest stops.
- Discussion was raised about rides leaving from bike shops
rather than a neutral place.
- There was no vote taken.
Gloria Anderson made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and
Andrew Danfy 2nd it.
Respectfully submitted,
Gloria Anderson
